Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Dawnlist (Pty) Ltd's services at dawnlist.co.za. Please read them. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Dawnlist (Pty) Ltd is a South African company. Our registered address is TBC. Our Information Officer is TBC at the same address. You can reach us at hello@dawnlist.co.za for general questions or privacy@dawnlist.co.za for privacy and data questions.

2. What Dawnlist does

Dawnlist is an AI-powered job-matching service for candidates in South Africa. You upload your CV, we extract a structured profile from it, we scrape job listings from public sources, and each morning we email you the jobs that best match your profile. You can also use the website at dawnlist.co.za to view your matches at any time and to generate AI-drafted cover letters for jobs you are interested in.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Dawnlist. You must provide accurate information when you sign up and keep it accurate. You agree to use Dawnlist for your own genuine job search — not on behalf of someone else, not as a recruiter prospecting candidates, and not for any commercial purpose other than your own employment.

4. Your account

You sign in by magic link sent to your email address. You are responsible for keeping access to that email address secure. If your email account is compromised, anyone with access to it can sign in to Dawnlist. Tell us immediately at privacy@dawnlist.co.za if you think this has happened.

You may have only one Dawnlist account at a time.

5. Free and paid tiers

Dawnlist offers a free tier and one or more paid tiers. The current tier structure, what each includes, and pricing are listed at dawnlist.co.za/pricing. We may change tier features and pricing from time to time. If we change pricing on a tier you currently subscribe to, we will email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

Paid subscriptions are monthly. Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number. If a payment fails, we will email you and pause your paid features until payment succeeds; we do not delete your account or your data for non-payment.

You can cancel a paid subscription at any time from your account settings. You will retain paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for.

We do not refund partial months unless we are required to by South African consumer law.

6. The CV you upload

You confirm that the CV you upload is your own CV, that you wrote it or it was written for you, and that any information in it that relates to other people (referees, former colleagues named in your work history) is information you have a lawful basis to share for your job search.

We process your CV with AI to extract your skills, experience, and the kinds of jobs that fit you. We describe what we do with it in our Privacy Notice. You can review and edit the profile we extract.

You can replace or delete your CV at any time. Deleting your account deletes your CV.

7. Job matching, cover letters, and AI output

Dawnlist uses AI to score job matches, generate cover letters, and write narrative descriptions of your profile. AI output is not always perfect. You are the final reviewer of anything we draft on your behalf. If we generate a cover letter for you, you must read it before sending. If a job we matched you to is wrong for you, ignore it.

We do not guarantee that you will get interviews, offers, or jobs. We do not guarantee that the jobs we surface are genuine, current, or appropriate. We aggregate listings from public sources and apply our best AI matching, and we improve continuously, but our service is a tool to help your search — not a guarantee of an outcome.

8. Job listings — accuracy and freshness

Job listings shown in Dawnlist are aggregated from third-party job boards and company career pages. We do our best to keep them current, but listings may be filled, withdrawn, or modified between when we scrape them and when you see them. Always verify the listing on the source site before applying. We are not responsible for outdated or incorrect listings sourced from third parties.

9. Sharing with recruiters (Talvi)

Dawnlist is paired with Talvi, a B2B recruiter platform. By default, no recruiter on Talvi can see you. Your profile stays inside Dawnlist.

If you want to be visible to recruiters on Talvi, you can give us separate, explicit consent in your settings. We describe what we share, what we don't share, and how to withdraw your consent in our Privacy Notice.

If a recruiter on Talvi wants to contact you, the contact request comes through Dawnlist — we deliver it to your email, you decide whether to reply, and the recruiter never sees your contact details unless you choose to respond.

When you use Dawnlist, you agree not to:

11. Our intellectual property

The Dawnlist platform, software, branding, and aggregated content are our intellectual property or licensed to us. You can use the service for your own job search. You cannot copy, redistribute, or build a competing service from our software, our scraped database, or our AI output.

12. Your intellectual property

You retain all rights in the CV you upload and any information you give us. You grant us a limited licence to process your CV and profile data only as described in our Privacy Notice — to match you to jobs, to generate cover letters for you, and (if you opt in) to share with Talvi recruiters. We do not claim ownership of your information, and we do not use it to train AI models.

13. Cover letters we generate

When we generate a cover letter for you, the output is yours. You can use it, edit it, or discard it. We do not retain rights over cover letters generated for your job applications.

You can delete your account at any time from settings. When you do:

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. If we terminate your account other than for breach, we will give you 30 days' notice and a way to download a copy of your data before deletion.

We may discontinue Dawnlist as a service. If we do, we will give you at least 60 days' notice by email and provide a way to export your CV and profile.

16. Liability

Dawnlist is provided “as is”. We do our best to make it work and to make it useful, but to the extent allowed by South African law:

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for matters that cannot be limited under South African law — including death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of POPIA where applicable.

17. Disputes

These terms are governed by South African law. Any dispute will be resolved in the South African courts.

If you have a complaint, please email hello@dawnlist.co.za first — most things can be sorted out quickly. If you have a privacy complaint specifically, you can also escalate to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforeg@justice.gov.za.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top will reflect the most recent version. If we change anything material, we will email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you do not agree with a change, you can delete your account before it takes effect.
